| School Group Information/Program Description | Lecture demonstrations, are performed with live music, as a guitarist and singer accompany two dancers. Audience participation is an integral part and student’s eyes are opened to the world of traditional Spanish/Hispanic dance and its history and culture. Professional artists in costume demonstrate the feet (zapateado), hands (palmas) and castanets. Workshops with the artists offer a Hands-on” session teaching the students dance movements and the cultures that influenced the Dance: Arabic, Gypsy, Spanish and Latino. |
| Professional Development/Program for Teacher Development | With a Teacher Curriculum Guide, a handson workshop of Spanish Dance gives the classroom teacher a way of connecting dance to geography, Spanish language, language arts and an introduction to another culture through dance. Teachers learn flamenco dance movements, specific rhythms that can be used in math classes and ways to get their students’ curiosity aroused towards other people’s lives. |
